i heart surprise visits

So, as many of you know, my mama surprised me Friday night. I was getting ready to have a dinner party with a few of my friends from school, and Mom texted me to see if there was enough for her. I thought she was kidding until she said she was crossing the GW! I was so excited, and I immediately went to scrub my bathtub (clean freak, ya know haha). Anyways, Mom helped me make dinner & Debbie, Sara, Steph & Steven came over. We had a great time visiting, and I was so happy that Mom got to meet my friends.

Did I mention that Mom brought an entire truck load of food & toiletries to last me until 2014? Mom, my grandmas, my Aunt Mel and cousin Ashlie all bought me food, shampoo, deodorant, etc. etc. and sent it with Mom since I am in the middle of a financial crisis (as most of you know...haha). I am so blessed.

Yesterday Mom and I didn't get up til 11am, sat around and drank coffee, then got ourselves together, went to Ikea to pick up some cereal bowls and things, went to the grocery for some fresh fruit, etc. (I also got a new addition to my family, her name is Ivy, she is an Ivy and is sitting in my front window looking perfectly adorable.) Then we found a PF CHANGS, which just happens to me Mom's favorite restaurant. It was DELICIOUS! Spring rolls, crispy honey chicken, chang's spicy chicken, and ginger ale. yum yum yum. Unfortunately, we had to drive around for over an hour to find a parking spot, and drive by a filming crew at least 30 times. I'm sure they thought we were crazy.

Today, we are going to go do laundry. Yay. Mom gets to experience an NYC laundromat. Then we are going to go find some pashmina scarves for her to take home to the girls. After that, we'll probably eat some delicious Thai food, and go shopping for trash cans. Mom thinks mine is too small. ;) Well - time to go put my mascara on & spend the day with my beautiful mama. ;)

rip MJ

As I was riding the lovely 1 train today from 86th street to 116th street, I encountered a fascinating individual that I would love to tell you about. A young African American woman, slightly obese, was sitting across from me, jamming to her iPod, listening to Michael Jackson, I assume. Why do I assume that, you ask? Well folks, I divulge. She was wearing a Michael Jackson t-shirt and carrying an MJ purse. You might be thinking, so what? Lots of people pay homage to the King of Pop with their apparel. Well, I am not finished...She was also wearing one sequened glove, had a miniature sequened top hat attached to her bright red hair (which happened to be black on the bottom). She also had sequened leg warmers (more like ankle warmers) sitting atop her black loafers. I tried multiple times to take a picture, but afraid she would attack me. I have no other words. Hope YOU had an exciting Tuesday.

starbucks excitement

So, today has been quite the interesting day at Starbucks @ 168th & Broadway. Considering I have been here since approximately 1PM, studying for my peds test tomorrow, I have seen some crazy characters. First of all, a man walked in about an hour ago, clearly on some type of stimulant. He proceeded to plug his cell phone in, under my seat and ask if it was okay. I said, "Sure, as long as I can go through your text messages." Unfortunately, he didn't hear that comment. If he would have, I'm sure this post might be a bit more exciting. He then told me the reason he needed to charge his phone so badly was to see the Jets vs. Colts score. Keep in mind that throughout this experience, this man was making random outbursts such as: "Go Jets!" "Yes!" "Alright." "Okay." etc. He sat down right beside me, of course, after getting his free cup of coffee (he had some sort of coupon) and have a phone conversation with an unidentified individual. Apparently this extremely hyperactive man was waiting on the bus, but was 2 dollars short for the bus fare. Keep in mind, bus far in NYC is 2.25. So, he apparenly had a quarter. He was telling the person on the other end of the phone how he had planned on asking people for change in order to get the 2 dollars for the bus. Interesting character, for sure. Very polite, too.

Story #2. Throughout my afternoon @ SBux there have been three men coming in and out, having various LOUD phone conversations, exchanging cigarettes and money, tapping each other on the shoulder -- pretty shady stuff. In addition, one of these dudes loves to hit on women, telling them to have a happy new year, among other things. He hasn't hit on me yet though, which is interesting, considering we have made awkward eye contact @ least 20 times.

To be continued...

...and so it begins

Instead of doing what I am supposed to be doing (studying), I took inspiration from a friend and decided to enter the world of the blog. My life has gotten about 200 times more interesting since moving to New York City, so I think it's a good idea to tell the world about it. Get excited.
